Bampton is a small village just to the west of the junction between the River Lowther and Haweswater Beck, on the eastern edge of the Lake District.
The village still contains a pub, the Mardale Inn at St Patrick's Well, a convenient source of accommodation close to the Coast to Coast walk.
Directions: Bampton can be reached along country roads from Shap in the east or Askham in the north.
